Technical Supervisor (CLS) for Cardiomolecular Bay Area CLIA Laboratory

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with assay experience in a regulated (GLP/CLIA/GMP) environment. This person will be supervising daily operations of clinical testing to produce high quality results to meet assay turn-around times. This person will be responsible for scheduling and performing testing as needed; ensuring the quality of testing; reviewing laboratory data; preparing appropriate reports, protocols and SOPS; overseeing reagent qualifications and inventory; overseeing equipment maintenance; participating on project teams; ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety practices. The Senior CLS will help establish a service oriented group to meet internal and external customer needs. They will interact with the Software Development, Clinical/Regulatory, Marketing, and R&D departments as needed to help facilitate testing.

Requirements
Must have a valid California CLS license with 4+ years of experience in clinical laboratory supervision.Experience:6-8 years laboratory experience, experience in molecular techniques and FDA 510K regulatory experience is a plus.Meet TS or GS requirements for New York, California, and Federal CLIA requirements for high complexity chemistry testing.Special skills/Abilities:Laboratory experience with a background in molecular techniques or FDA 510K regulatory experience is considered a plus. Molecular Technical Lab Supervisor

Job Responsibilities/Department description:

  • Reviews test performance, drive process and provide project management.
  • Resolve problems with clients, and other departments. Interface with the pathologists for technical issues and case sign out.
  • Identify the future needs of the laboratory with respect to equipment, process and staff. Coordinate R & D activities as they relate to Operations.
  • Conduct validations, and technical troubleshooting of assays and processes.
  • Facilitate the transfer of current assays from R & D to Operations, and the introduction of new Molecular assays to the Los Angeles location.
  • Perform assays and make decisions that require the comparison and evaluation of possible courses of conduct and the consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion.
  • Provide oversight of multiple areas of the Molecular Lab Operations.
  • Responsible for the scheduling and supervision of non-exempt lab personnel, including planning, assigning, and directing work in the laboratory.
  • Mentor and support direct reports through training; define, coordinate and monitor quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee appropriate staffing levels in the laboratory through effective interviewing, hiring, and training; provide direction through performance development.
  • Develop an annual budget and manage department costs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well individually and in a team environment are required. Ability to interact with other areas of clinical operations such as Pathology, Quality Control and Development departments are also required.

Basic Requirements :

  • A Bachelor's degree in Science, Molecular Biology, Biology, Medical Technology or other related area is required.
  • CLS license (preferably in Molecular Biology) is required.
  • 8 plus years of Clinical experience is a must.

Laboratory Technologist (CLS) in CLIA Laboratory

The Laboratory Technologist (CLS) in this CLIA Laboratory is responsible for the processing of clinical specimens, performing testing and recording of test results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Laboratory Technologist will be accountable for the following activities:
Perform molecular genetic testing on clinical specimens, including expression array analysis
Follow the laboratory's standard operating procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, recording of test results
Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed
Perform all laboratory activities in accordance with the Quality Assurance Program
Engage in training and competency assessment
Perform proficiency testing for the clinical tests
Follow the laboratory's established policies
Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications
Attend and participate in the monthly quality assurance meetings
Participate in activities associated with regulatory compliance and inspections
Contribute to the safety of the laboratory operations
Be accountable for customer satisfaction and the quality of the testing services
Work cooperatively in a team environment supporting senior laboratory and management staff

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
B.A, B.S., M.A. or M.S. in chemical, physical, biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution
Minimum of two years clinical laboratory experience in molecular genetic testing (experience with Affymetrix expression array platforms, NuGEN reagents, and RNA analysis is a plus)
A current California State Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license as a Clinical Genetics Molecular Biologist

The General Supervisor of this High Complexity CLIA Laboratory is a hands-on position responsible for the day-to-day supervision and oversight of the clinical laboratory's operations and personnel performing testing and reporting of test results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oredering and managing inventory and installation and qualification of laboratory supplies, reagents and equipment
  • Ensuring operational compliance with the clinical laboratory's Quality Management Systems (QMS) Program and delivering the routine QMS associated metrics
  • Training and proficiency in the laboratory's StandardOperating Procedures (SOPs) for clinical testing and knowledgeable in their quality control parameters
  • Providing hands on back-up support to the testing personnel in the performance of all operational clinical tests as required to meet service imperative
  • Training, supervising, and assessing the competency of testing personnel
  • Providing day-to-day supervision of high complexity test performance by qualified testing personnel
  • Monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained

  • Providing orientation to all testing personnel

Education, Training, and Work Experience Requirements:

  • The Supervisor holds a B.A., B.S., M.A. or M.S. in chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution
  • The Supervisor is qualified as a medical technologist and has had at least six years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience subsequent to qualifying, of which at least two years have been spent working in a clinical laboratory qualified to perform high complexity genetic testing and having a director at the doctoral level
  • The Supervisor holds a current California State Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license as a Clinical Genetics Molecular Biologist
  • Practical and hands-on experience in Quality Management Systems (QMS)

Job Profile:
Under general direction of the Sr. Director, Technical Operations, the Clinical Laboratory Manager is responsible for managing the administrative and technical functions in the XDx Clinical Reference Laboratory. This position will manage the daily operation, quality control and quality assurance activities of the clinical laboratory to ensure quality patient testing and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements (CLIA, CAP, FDA, and OSHA). Job duties will be accomplished through collaboration with other Technical Operations staff as well as other groups throughout XDx.

Responsibilities:
• Interview and evaluate the performance of technologists, technicians and support personnel
• Control staffing levels; coordinate work schedules to maintain adequate coverage for all clinical testing
• Ensure managerial oversight during all hours of the laboratory operation

• Review patient testing and quality control results
• Develop and monitor quality assurance activities, including follow-up of incident reports, non-conformances, and corrective and preventive actions
• Recommend and administer the budget for the laboratory including the selection and purchase of equipment
• Determine and ensure appropriate stock levels of supplies and equipment; ensure that routine equipment calibration and maintenance is performed and reviewed on schedule
• Consult with the Senior Director of Technical Operations, the Laboratory Director and the Research staff in the resolution of difficult technical problems
• Assign or perform evaluations of new laboratory procedures, modifications to current procedures; ensure SOPs are accurate and current
• Recommend additions or modifications of tests and procedures
• Ensure adherence to laws and regulations pertaining to laboratory inspections, safety and licensure
• Develop and administer orientation, training and proficiency programs for all laboratory staff; mentor and develop staff
• Provide assistance as needed to support field staff, draw sites and customers


Qualifications:
• BS/BA in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science required; experience with molecular-based testing methods (RNA technologies, PCR, real-time PCR) preferred
• State of California Clinical Laboratory Scientist or appropriate California specialty license required
• Minimum of 5 years laboratory supervision / management experience with increasing responsibilities required
• Must have a solid working knowledge of QA principles, concepts, systems, industry practices, and standards
• Must have working knowledge of applicable local, state and federal safety laws Extensive working knowledge of CLIA, CAP, NY state, HIPAA and other applicable healthcare and laboratory regulations
• Experience with Environmental Health and Safety regulations desirable
• Good understanding of statistical methods and application to the analysis of complex assays
• Strong verbal, technical writing and interpersonal skills are required
• Must be computer literate; proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
