The department of Pathology, within Comparative Biology and Safety Sciences is seeking an enthusiastic medical technologist who will interact with discovery scientists, pathologists, and other researchers. The successful candidate will work closely with scientific colleagues at Amgen to deliver excellent data and analysis to advance the R&D pipeline of potential medicines across major therapeutic areas (especially oncology, metabolic disorders, inflammation and neuroscience).

This medical technologist will be involved with projects that include discovery research, translational science and investigative studies. Main responsibilities will include
• Processing and analyzing research samples (hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, cytology)
• Maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and procurement of supplies.
• Investigation, evaluation, and integration of new equipment/software.
• Development and validation of new assays; preparation of validation protocols and written reports
Basic Qualifications
Master’s degree & 3 years of scientific experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree & 5 years of scientific experience
Preferred Qualifications
Medical Technologist certification: MT (ASCP)

4+ years of experience in a research setting (university, hospital or industry);

Skilled at hematology, cytology, chemistry, urinalysis, and coagulation assays, as well as immunoassay

Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting automated hematology and clinical chemistry instrumentation

Proficiency in utilization of computerized data collection systems (e.g. a LIMS or toxicology database) and office and scientific computer programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GraphPad, Spotfire, etc)

Excellent team working and communication skills, a pro-active attitude, and innovative and interdisciplinary thinking towards accomplishing goals and solving issues.

Experience with developing and running novel assays on various platforms (immunoassays, Luminex, etc)

Expertise in flow cytometry, cytochemistry, immunohistochemistry, or molecular biology a strong plus

Effective at communicating data, conclusions and recommendations in written reports and oral presentations.
