CLS Opportunities - Biotech/Scientific/Pharma arena

Job Summary  
Reports to Operations Supervisor, Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Manager. Under limited supervision incumbent(s) will use their training in medical technology to perform clinical lab testing and/or other scientific examinations. Required to work independent of immediate supervision and assume the initiative for prompt and accurate performance of tests with appropriate documentation and proper notification of abnormal results. This is considered an entry level position and is the first of a two level job family.


Job Accountabilities 
Clinical Laboratory Scientist I will perform all or part of the following duties:

1. Independently performs consistently moderate and somewhat complex clinical tests. Exhibits skills and proficiency in applying technical principles and techniques of medical technology.

2. Prepares and tests new reagents or controls and evaluates their usefulness based on standard criteria.

3. Performs test calibrations and runs Quality Control material at appropriate intervals.

4. Determines the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria in testing procedures.

5. Determines calculated results utilizing testing data by means of manual or computerized procedures.

6. Accurately enters results of testing. Checks the computer review reports to monitor accurate reporting of laboratory results.

7. Evaluates the acceptability of routine analysis prior to releasing patient reports. Takes appropriate action in response to critical values or unusual or unexpected results, and documents action taken.

8. Responsible for performing preventative maintenance and/or calibration of laboratory equipment and properly documenting actions taken based on approved schedule.

9. Evaluates the results of instrument performance checks. Performs linearity, accuracy and precision checks as required.

10. Performs Q/C and calibrations with the appropriate frequency and evaluates results, to decide whether tests should be reported. Reports any shifts or trends to a Clinical Laboratory Scientist II or Supervisor.

11. Accurately performs and records proficiency testing.

12. Recognizes problems, and initiates troubleshooting steps to evaluate testing failures and other problems, if necessary. Notifies the supervisor, and contacts manufacturer for additional assistance or field service support, if required.

13. Monitors and maintains a consistent supply of reagents and consumables.

14. Promptly and courteously answers the phone and assists clients and other departments.

15. Maintains a safe and neat work area.

16. Maintains a cooperative working relationship with co-workers.

17. Provides on-going technical guidance to laboratory assistants, laboratory associates, and other Clinical Laboratory Scientists. Instructs and/or trains new employees in the proper performance of routine procedures.

18. Maintains professional growth and development through continuing education activities.

19. Follows established company and department policies and procedures. Follows the guidelines for safety, environmental, and infection control.

20. Demonstrates a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.

21. May be required to perform Clinical Laboratory Scientist II level duties for a limited period of time, in order to establish competency prior to promotion as well as fill in for departmental absences.

22. Provides direct and constant supervision to unlicensed staff as necessary.

23. Support the CLS Training Program.

Clinical Laboratory Scientist I must have: 


1. A Bachelors of Science degree in medical technology or biological sciences from an accredited college or university.

2. A current California state Clinical Laboratory Scientist license to perform laboratory testing.

CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST

The CLS will be responsible for participating in the microarray diagnostics performed by the laboratory. The selected candidate will be knowledgeable in all techniques involving DNA/RNA extractions, PCR, RT-PCR reactions, DNA sequencing and other molecular genetic techniques. The CLS will also:

The announcements say GS-10, which is a senior tech, BUT STUDENTS who have BS, NAACLS training program, certification (or will have very soon) can apply.   If they are selected, they come in at the GS-7 level for one year, then GS-9 for a few years, then GS-10.       Positions are:
                Palo Alto              Evening Shift  4pm – midnight  (2 positions)

Laboratory Client Services Manager - Hospital - Sacramento Area


POSITION SUMMARY:
Manages the day-to-day activities and resources of the Laboratory Patient Service Centers (PSC’s), which provide blood (and other), specimen collection services to ambulatory patients. Working within the direction provided by the Laboratory Director, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, monitoring, controlling, coordinating, integrating, standardizing, assessing and improving the day-to-day business of the PSC’s. This position also functions as the primary liaison to clients (i.e., physicians and Care Center staff). As such, this position is responsible for developing and maintaining processes for managing test orders, specimen collection, specimen transport and result reporting that ensure excellence in client service and satisfaction.

  • Individual must also have demonstrated ability in problem solving, managing for results, organizing work, prioritizing and managing diverse activities in a changing environment. Individual must have the basic computer skills necessary to maintain a laboratory information system, as well as utilize a variety of standard computer programs (word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.).
  • Individual must demonstrate an ability to effectively identify pre-analytic and post-analytic process variations, and take appropriate and timely corrective action.

Physical Requirements:

Mobility is required, as well as the ability to alternately sit and stand for several hours at a time. Must have considerable manual dexterity to accomplish such tasks as computer data entry. Job Description
Due to the recent successful launch of MaterniT21, we are looking to hire additional licensed CLS candidates to work in our San Diego lab. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for the production of medical diagnostic testing in a CLIA lab. The Scientist will ensure that complex molecular diagnostic assays and systems are performed under appropriate compliance and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will also independently perform clinical lab testing and other scientific examinations and record appropriate test documentations and evaluate test results.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Calculate results using testing data with both manual and computerized procedures
  • Accurately enter results of testing. Review reports to ensure accurate test result reporting
  • Identify and respond to critical values or unusual or unexpected results and maintain proper documentation
  • Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment
  • Evaluate instrument performance check results. Perform linearity, accuracy and precision checks as required
  • Perform Quality Control and calibrations as required
  • Recognize problems and initiate troubleshooting steps to evaluate testing failures and other problems
  • Monitor and maintain a consistent supply of reagents and consumables
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Provide technical guidance to laboratory assistants and associates and other Clinical Laboratory Scientists. Assist training new employees
  • Review and edit technical instructions and standard operating procedures


Job Requirements

  • CA CLS license required
  • Specialist in Molecular (CGMBS) license highly desired
  • B.S. in scientific discipline required
  • 1+ year’s direct experience in a laboratory setting
  • Previous molecular diagnostics experience including DNA isolation, PCR, RT-PCR,Real-Time PCR, capillary electrophoresis and DNA sequencing highly desired
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills and experience with a laboratory information system
  • Experience with accreditation inspections and writing and editing laboratory Standard Operated Procedures (SOP) highly desirable
