Mangrove Medical Lab & XRAY, Chico CA, seeks a full time Clinical Laboratory Scientist to conduct specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results in accordance with laboratory procedures. Maintain records of testing samples, analyze specimens using approved testing procedures. Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and safety guidelines, adhere to laboratory quality control policies and document quality control activities.

Responsible for leadership and supervision of all laboratory employees.  Perform annual employee competencies.  Keep laboratory policies and procedure manual up to date and compliant with state and federal regulations.

Qualified applicant qualifications:

  • Possess a valid Clinical Lab Scientist license issued by the California State Department of Health (Laboratory Field Services)
  • MUST HAVE minimum of 5 years’ experience as a licensed Clinical Scientist
  • Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of all aspects of the laboratory

Job Responsibilities
As a Microbiology Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising and overseeing all Technologists within the Microbiology department, maintaining acceptable TAT. 
Additional responsibilities of the Microbiology Supervisor include:
·       Support company mission, vision, goals and management decisions.
·       Provide leadership and supervise/manage assigned department, make decisions, solve problems, develop procedures, and conduct and attend meetings.
·       Manage the employee hiring process including developing and updating job descriptions in conjunction with Human Resources, developing performance expectations, identifying essential functions and knowledge, skills and abilities required for applicable positions.
·       Supervise/manage employees and team performance, new employee orientation processes, employee training and continuing education.
·       Manage employee performance by coaching, counseling, motivating, and evaluating employees on a continual basis. Implement disciplinary action as needed and in consultation with Human Resources.
·       Ensure effective employee relations by sustaining an ethical, non-discriminatory and safe work environment and establishing effective communication lines and methods. Identify and solve employee problems, manage conflict, and respond to grievances as needed.
·       Performs all duties of a senior Medical Laboratory Technologist.
·       Manages the ordering and inventory of supplies for the Microbiology departments.
·       Responsible for validating and correlations on new equipment and new procedures that pertain to the departments.
·       Responsible for the performance calibration verification for all departmental equipment.
·       Responsible for equipment maintenance including training of staff when appropriate.
·       Develop, implement and maintain effective departmental QA programs and monitors.
·       Coordinate the maintenance, development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
·       Responsible for meeting the compliance guidelines for the laboratory industry.
·       Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
·       Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry’s best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
·       Must be familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all corporate policies, including the Privacy and Security policies.

Job Requirements
Successful candidates for the Microbiology Supervisor must be certified in the area of clinical laboratory science by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or the equivalent.
Additional requirements of the Microbiology Supervisor role include:
·       Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, or a chemical, biological, or physical science
·       1+ years of supervisory or lead experience; highly preferred
·       5+ years of experience of laboratory training experience or both in a laboratory performing high complexity testing, preferred

Assists the section supervisors in maintaining the highest levels of clinical and pathological laboratory services to all customers of CMH. Performs all automated technical blood bank, microbiology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis and chemistry technical procedures as required.  Maintains smoothly functioning section or shift as assigned. Is able to function as a lead in the absence of section supervisor.  Effectively deals with peers and hospital personnel. Resolves issues within authority limits and recognizes authority limits. Completes required reports within allotted time frames.  Maintains a safe environment in the laboratory. Assists in education, training and practice of safe work habits of fellow employees. Performs instrument maintenance and quality control. Takes corrective action as required.  Participates in performance improvement activities. Maintains strict patient confidentiality and recognizes age-specific criteria.
