Full Time; Partial Year Career
Starting salary range $5,209 - $6,348 monthly for 10 months (for an annual equivalent $52,090 - $63,480) with a two-month unpaid furlough in summer. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Under the general direction of the Student Health Services Ancillary Services Coordinator, this position serves as one of the clinical laboratory technologist specialists at the Student Health Center (SHC). The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Specialist is responsible for the operation of the UCSC Student Health Center Laboratory and performs all diagnostic in-house testing in hematology, urinalysis, microbiology, chemistry and whole blood glucose determination. The CLS uses the in-house practice management system and a laboratory information system (LIS). This position is responsible for the accurate and precise reporting of test results, monitoring of quality assurance, and acting as liaison to the Student Health Center medical and clerical staff for resolution of laboratory problems. The CLS oversees the work of the laboratory assistant/phlebotomist.
Student Health Services serves graduate and undergraduate students. Services include Urgent Care for acute medical conditions as well as appointments for less acute conditions, chronic conditions and health maintenance. Student Health Services also has psychiatry and allergy and immunization clinics as well as in-house pharmacy, x-ray, and laboratory services.
Qualifications include:
- Knowledge of laboratory health education guidelines and community practice
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to use laboratory equipment properly and safely
- Ability to operate safety and office equipment properly
- Ability to work with the Laboratory Information System (LIS), electronic medical records, word processing computer software, and spreadsheets
