CLS - Veracyte


The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) in this CLIA Laboratory is responsible for the processing of clinical specimens, performing testing and recording of test results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Laboratory Scientist will be accountable for the following activities:


  • Perform molecular genetic testing on clinical specimens, including expression array analysis
  • Follow the laboratory's standard operating procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, and recording of test results
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed
  • Perform all laboratory activities in accordance with the Quality Assurance Program
  • Engage in training and competency assessment
  • Perform proficiency testing for the clinical tests
  • Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures
  • Identify and report problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications
  • Attend and participate in staff/quality meetings
  • Participate in activities associated with regulatory compliance and inspections
  • Contribute to the safety of the laboratory operations by adhering to established safety procedures and making recommendations for improvement
  • Work cooperatively in a team environment and support senior laboratory and management staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned


EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • B.A., B.S., M.A., M.S., or equivalent in chemical, physical, biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution
  • A current California State Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license – i.e., either a CLS Generalist, Clinical Chemist Scientist (CCS), or Clinical Genetics Molecular Biologist (CGMBS)
  • Ability to perform hands-on (and automated) laboratory procedures and the associated manual/computerized documentation according to established procedures
  • Possess working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations
  • Training in molecular biology techniques preferred
  • Experience with Affymetrix expression array platforms, NuGEN reagents, and RNA analysis is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail

Job description:
·         Please only submit candidates with 5+ years experience in running manual hematology differentials, ability to make manual smear preps, experience in Wright Giemsa and May-Grunwald staining protocols, well versed in identifying and classifying cell morphologies in peripheral whole blood, bone marrow aspirates and body fluids.
·         ASCP certification desired. Analyzes test results and enters into the computer.
·         Performs routine maintenance on laboratory analyzers.
·         Familiar with routine laboratory techniques such as pH and temperature measurement.
·         Ability to organize workload and deliver results.
·         BS/MS in Medical Technology (ASCP) certified.
·         5+ years in comprehensive and continuing experience in following standard diagnostic procedures. Conducts chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal and abnormal components. Studies blood cells, their numbers and morphology.
·         Performs blood group, type and compatibility tests for transfusion purposes.
·         Analyzes test results and enters findings in computer.
·         Performs quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical data.
·         Engages in medical research under direction of Chief Medical Technologist.
·         Performs routine preventative maintenance of assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure.
·         Verifies instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and documents data.
·         Records on instrument logs any repairs, replacement and maintenance needed of equipment. Trains and supervises students
·         Niche skill set of having to have hematology and manual microscopy experience (have to read peripheral drug smears under the microscope).
·         The candidate will be working on a small team and must be a team player that is dedicated to a specific project in new product development.
·         Candidate shall have medical technology license with extensive (5+ years) hematology and manual microscopy experience. Ability to design experiments and write protocols is a plus.
·         Knowledge of experiment design is required at this stage of the review process.
·         They must have medical lab experience working with abnormal specimen; morphology experience in analyzing normal and abnormal blood smears under the microscope is a plus

CLS-I, Part-Time and Full-Time Openings


We are a CLIA reference lab located in San Leandro, CA, and are a general testing lab encompassing hematology, chemistry, special chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, and send-out processing. We are a high volume lab, and are constantly expanding. As a CLS-I, you will be a bench CLS with a great opportunity to grow with the company.  EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in medical technology, microbiology chemistry, biology or related field.
  2. Possession of Clinical Laboratory Scientist’s license issued by the State of California or equivalent license approved by LFS (Laboratory Field Services).
  3. Must meet CLIA requirements for testing personnel for High Complexity Testing.
  4. Have documentation of training, knowledge and experience in the department(s) assigned (Microbiology, Hematology, Chemistry or/and Immunology) to work.
  5. Have the necessary language reasoning and mathematical skills to follow and implement the laboratory policies and procedures approved by the laboratory Director.
  6. Ability to work independently and have good sound analytical judgment to function effectively under stress in certain situations.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills sufficient to work closely with others on a team.
  8. Possess the ability to work in a fast paced environment, effectively interacting with physicians, facilities and laboratory personnel.
  9. Possess speed, consistency and accuracy in tasks to meet the laboratory standards.
